This thread has been created to follow my travails during the DYO map making process. I state here that I am a novice at this. I decided on using Inkscape in my first iteration of this map because it is essentially freeware and matches as closely the capabilities of Illustator at the right price. I have used a number of gaming systems the past few years to play through a scenario found in the book Cauldron by Larry Bond and Patrick Larkin. The scenario is set in 1998, but any modern period would suffice (1987) and pits Germans attacking Poles. The Pole mechanized infantry company being caught flat-footed, defending a town versus a German mechanized infantry battalion and a reduced company of Leo II. The Poles need to delay the enemy in order to prevent the, from seizing a bridge over the Notec River about 1.5km behind the town Rynarzewo. ![]() ![]()

OK, just futzing around with Inkscape, thinking of how best to replicate a river, road, road bridge, and wood buildings. One thing that rapidly became apparent is the need to duplicate a single hand drawn "river/road" so that it becomes sharper. You can see that the river and road lines are non-symetrical. The wood bulding appear ok to my view, but could be re-sized. Attachments:
